How Do You Get There?
It is easily accessible via Mumbai and Pune by train. All you have to do is hop on the train and get to Neral station.. Unfortunately, you cannot take a toy train to Matheran for now; talks are, it will be back on track by June.
Meanwhile you can book a taxi at Dasturi Naka that is the closest an automobile can reach its red soiled and velvety green premises. This will take about 20 minutes after which you can move ahead on foot or horse back.
On entering Matheran, you are required to pay a Capitation Tax of 50 Rs.

Matheran is famous for its points. There are approximately 36 look out points in Matheran.
Is it doable in a day? If you want to visit all the points. Then no. The most popular points are located at quite a distance from each other; hence, it will definitely not be possible to get to all. It may take approximately 2-3 days to cover every single point.

Matheran is an absolute stunner during the monsoons but the fog might haze out your view. The best time to visit is post monsoon, when the hill station is covered with lush greens and the waterfalls are still gushing in all their glory. September to November is the preferred choice.
What To Keep In Mind?
Matheran is one travel destination that does not burn a hole in your pocket. It is a go-to for a traveller looking to unwind and escape into nature. A word of caution for single travellers. Many hotels do not accept single travelers unless they are well booked in advance. A spooky reason behind it. So, if you are planning to travel alone it is advisable to book ahead to avoid being stranded. And transportation can be a problem after 7. It’s better to head back early if you’re not planning on staying back.
